What is powder coating? Explained

Updated: Nov 10, 2023

Powder coating is a dry finishing process where a free-flowing, electrostatically charged powder material is applied to a metal surface. The powder material is usually made of finely ground particles of pigmented resins and additives. The charged powder material adheres to the grounded metal surface, forming a coating that is then cured in an oven to create a hard and durable finish.

Powder coating has several advantages over traditional liquid painting methods. It produces a thicker, more uniform coating that is resistant to chipping, fading, and scratches. It is also environmentally friendly, as it produces very little waste and does not use solvents or VOCs (volatile organic compounds).
